Shoot/Production Of Our Film

On Friday the 23rd a group of three and I went off the Hayling Island (next to Portsmouth) to shoot our short opening for our film. The reason for going down to Portsmouth area was because we wanted to shoot down on the coast. This was because this is different to the usual idea of shooting in a built up area. Also the coast is often used in lots of indie films. We stayed at a member of the groups house, (Ben King) because they lived right next to the coast and this is the reason for us going to Hayling Island.

We started shooting early hours of the morning so that we had maximum shooting time before the tied came in to far. We realised straight away that we would need to shoot these shots over more then one day due to the fact we could not finish our shots before the tied came in. We found when filming on the beach there where many problems. For example, because it was so bright, we were unable to visualise on the camera wether the shots we in/out of focus. This was another reason why we needed to go back to the beach; we found when looking through the shots on a computer some of the needed shots where out of focus. Another problem was found in the lighting. Due to the sun being out, it meant the subject was saluted. However this in some cases worked in our favour because the shots where quit interesting.

We then had to shoot our shots for a different scene. This took place in the house in which we where staying. This shoot was much easier; we had everything we needed with us so we could easily review the footage while filming. We try a variety of different shots to achieve a more intriguing sequence. For example, in this image we where trying to get a nice POV from inside the trunk. In my opinion this shot came out very well because its makes the character look isolated and alone. In this scene was the only bit of dialog from this shoot. However, this bit of dialog was no longer then a few words because we thought dialog doe not look very good when we attempted it.

Representation of age in E.R

Youth is represented in a number of ways in E.R. For example, the camera is used to make the boy seem weak and vulnerable by the use of a high angle shot, looking down on the boy. this makes him seem like a stereotypical young boy who in this case is very vulnerable. Mise-on-scene also does this by the use of props. The boy is surrounded by medical equipment including noise tubes to reinforce the boys invertible death. This also includes the makeup they have used for the boy. His eyes seem restless and his face is very pail, again stereotyping young people as weak and vulnerable. However, the dialog contradicts this when the boy says, "So it worked?" This suddenly changes our out look on the boy. It represents youths as wise and well educated seeing as he is showed to be as cleaver as a doctor.  The Mise-en-scene is also used as a counter-steriotype by the use of props. In this case they is completing a sudoko. This shows the boy is intelligent and unlike other stereotypical youths.
The sequence ends with the sound the sound of a hart monitor beeping in the background as he starts to talk about his mum. This represents youths as dependant on the parents.
The abrupt cross-cutinto the waiting room shows a jux-to-position from a calm medical room with a boy talking about his invertible death to a winy stereotypical boy with a small bit. This shows the maturity of the other boy.
Old age is represented in this sequence as lonely. This is shown but the use of dialog. We see this when an old woman is sitting in a waiting room and is asked why she wants to be treated and the old lady responds, "No, I'm  just here of the hospital air." This represents the elderly as insecure and lonely.
