Re-Shooting Bike Scene

We decided to try another attempt at creating another intense bike scene because we needed a way to kill off one of main characters friends and in our last attempt we made the cheesiest worst shot scene so far. We needed to do this because we needed a reason for our characters depression though out the rest of the film. At first we were going to have the death of hi parents but then thought it world be easy to tell in and opening the death of his friend. Also we could not find an adult to act as the parents for us.

We chose to shoot our bike scene in the backstreets/alleyways near to my house. We chose to do this because we wanted to keep the idea of our main character living in a lonely seaside town. This meant we did not want to make it look like our character was in an urban area.

He I have highlighted the main areas in which we used the alleyway for. For example the red circle is the point in which our main characters friend got hit by the car, and the yellow line highlights the rout that our characters followed before the crash

Here are tow of the shots from our new sequence. The shots are of the bike journey and Chester's friend after he was run over. To Get this blood effect we used red food colouring (for the colour), mixed with honey (to get a thicker effect).

Rudimental Music Video

I looked at the begging of 'Rudimental - waiting all night' music video consists of a group of friends biking through small streets and alleyways before one member of the group gets hit by a van.

I looked at this video because my group and I wanted to achieve an intense biking scene which inevitable ends with the death of our main characters best friend.

This music video uses techniques that we want to use to create a scene that is a contrast to our beach scene. We want to create a scene of happiness with a fast paced cutting to build tension for the bike crash. Like this video, we want to use lots of different shots and editing techniques to create a more exciting atmosphere.

Shoot Bike Scene

My group and I again have shot a scene that is separate to our beach scene. This consists of our main character and his friends biking through Richmond Park having a fun time before the death of his friend (he falls off his bike). This takes place in Richmond Park because we wanted to keep to the idea of making it seem like Our character lives in a lonely coastal town.
In this shoot we produced a variety very nice quality shots but found that again the editing did not connect and the acting was very poor/cheesy. This shoot way unsuccessful mainly because we did not plan how it would connect and worked so we spent most of our time deciding what we were going to do. We have decide to again re-shoot our film but this time in a more built up area and our characters friend would be hit by a car.

Shooting the end sequence of our film

Here we shot the scene in which our main character gets back from a fun game with his friends to receiving a phone call about the death of his parents.
This seemed to be very difficult because the acting in the shoot was very poor and cheesy. also the quality of the filming was at a very low level compared to our beach scene. The filming was cliché and did not give off the atmosphere we wanted.

Here is a shot from our this shoot, and although some of these shots were successful, as a group we felt we no longer wanted to use the scene so would have to think up a new one. we need an idea that will successfully show an unfortunate event which occurs in our min characters life.

Storyboard for new scene

Here my group and I realised that one of our scene really weekend our film. We have decided to get rid of the scene that consists of our main character moving into his grandparents. We have decided to do this because this scene is very slow and pointless and we fell it doesn't show a variety of filming skills that we want to show in the clip. The clip we want to replace it with is a quite fast paced and happy, witch is a jus to position to the depressing slow paced scene before. This scene will consist of the main character and his friends playing rugby. This takes place before the scene on the beach so will be a flash back.
We want this scene to add more sympathy to the character due to the fact he is leaving a life that he enjoys behind. Because of the timing of our film, we will have to make this scene short, for example a ten second montage of passes and tackles, etc.

Post Production

This week my group and I focused on editing our project. We have come to realise that one of the scenes in our film so far is pointless and unneeded (it is a long sequence of our main character moving into his grandparents house). We have decided to replace it with a new scene. We have not yet decided on the content of our new scene but, we want it to be happy and fast paced.
Another problem we are having is, we are finding it very hard to find the perfect song for our film. We want a sad song but at the same time we don't want it to be too depressing. We are also going to add wave sounds over the top to add a more calming, atmospheric effect to to scene.
I think that our first scene however, is very good and it seems to flow well throughout the edits. As a group we think we have achieved a scene that is appropriate to how our character is meant to be feeling. It has a sad depressing atmosphere which matches the feelings of our character. We did find that one part of this sequence needed tweaking. This was when the character is taking his shoes off - we found this took way to long. However, we have found the scene looses its fluidity when we cut out part of this action out.
